Net-A-Porter has introduced next-day delivery service for consumers in Sydney and Melbourne.

The online retail giant says it made the move in response to growing consumer demand within Australia.

"Everything we do is with the customer in mind - we're always focusing on improving speed and service," says Net-A-Porter president Alison Loehnis. "We're incredibly excited to bring next-day delivery to Sydney and Melbourne as it's important for us to provide the same experience across all of our key markets."

Net-A-Porter is the latest retailer to make international shipping easier for Australians - just last month, Australia Post announced it will be setting up shop in the United States, allowing Australians to use a US shipping address when purchasing online.

Effectively, Shopmate opens the doors to all those stores that currently don't ship to Australia, as well as reducing the parcel cost of those that do.

Australian stores also seem to be getting in on the action, with The Iconic and David Jones both launching Saturday delivery service in conjunction with Australia Post.

"We've done research which says that customers want it," said Australia Post parcel sales business manager Gavin Gomes. "Whether it becomes a continued service will depend on the consumer demand."
