1. It's ok to make a wrong turn every now and then if you learn from your mistakes. "My gut takes me to the place I should be," Zoe explains. "As women we should follow our gut, always. I've taken as many wrong turns as I have right ones, but the important thing to remember is to keep moving forward. The minute you stop, you lose momentum." (Which may explain why Zoe is a stylist, designer, consultant, editor-in-chief...).

2. Don't assume a certain persona because you think you have to. "You 100% can be nice and successful. You can be both," says Zoe, who follows Diane Von Furstenberg's mantra: "you don't have to be a bitch to get ahead".

3. Don't take criticism to heart. "I always try to remember it's just some angry person behind a computer when I read something bad about me," Zoe explains. "When I was younger I took things very much to heart. Nowadays I either don't read it, or I just let it roll off me like a duck. You have to remember it says more about the person saying it than it does about you sometimes."

4. If you want a closet like Zoe's, you better have started your archive, like yesterday. "I bought my first Louis Vuitton bag at age 13," the style icon confessed. "I saved every penny until I could afford it. You have to remember that you're essentially investing in your future when you buy these sort of things." Zoe said her husband Rodger was pleased she was finally using stuff she bought 20 years ago (though less so she was still adding to her archive).

5. A support network is essential. "At first, it was really hard for me to give up control as the business grew," Rachel explained. "But with time, I've developed a real sense of trust with my employees, and of course, the person I trust most in the world is my husband, who's also my business partner."
