Yes, the Aussie dollar has taken a dive, but never fear: Australia Post is riding to the rescue.

The company announced yesterday it will be setting up shop in the United States, allowing Australians to use a US shipping address when purchasing online.

Effectively, Shopmate opens the doors to all those stores that currently don't ship to Australia, as well as reducing the parcel cost of those that do.

Australian stores also seem to be getting in on the action, with The Iconic and David Jones both launching Saturday delivery service in conjunction with Australia Post.

"We've done research which says that customers want it," said Australia Post parcel sales business manager Gavin Gomes. "Whether it becomes a continued service will depend on the consumer demand. There are many groups of consumers that it would be great for - professional couples, for example."

While the Saturday business model is a tentative launch, you can now shop the States until your heart is content with Australia Post's US parcel forwarding service.
