What Happens To The Rejected Oscar Dresses

While we study every angle of the Oscars dresses that make it onto the red carpet, the question begs, what happens to the gowns that are rejected?

You pictured them hanging forlornly in a dark cupboard while their sparkly counterparts went to the Oscars, didn't you?

Not so - apparently the dresses thrown aside by attendees still get to have some fun, if stylist Kate Young's Instagram account is any indication.

The fashion superstar dressed Dakota Johnson and Sienna Miller at this year's Academy Awards, and clearly had some tough choices to make.

While Johnson ended up in a slimline Saint Laurent gown and Miller wore an Oscar de la Renta frock fresh from the runway, a number of other dresses lay in wait - or so they thought.

It's tradition for stylists to watch the Oscars from the comfort of their homes - but Young took things a step further and decided to give a rejected Valentino number a run on the couch, while her assistant donned an elaborate Oscar de la Renta gown.

"#backupcouture." Young's assistant captioned the image, which she uploaded to Instagram.

Young later regrammed, captioning her version: "the beautiful dresses that didn't make it...#oscars2015"

So there you have it folks - not all of the Oscar dresses get to leave the comfort of their hangers, but when they do, it's clearly worth it.
