Christopher Kane Leaving Versus

Christopher Kane is reportedly set to leave Versus, with industry insiders speculating he may be getting ready to make the move to a different label.

Kane has been at the helm of Versus since 2009, but is currently the rumoured front-runner to replace Nicholas Ghesquière at Balenciaga.

However, despite the intense media speculation, a spokesperson for the designer said simply this morning, “rumours surrounding Christopher Kane's appointment as creative director of Balenciaga are unfounded,” while a Balenciaga rep declined to comment.

Regardless of Kane’s next move, he has the support of Donatella Versace, who said of the designer’s departure, “I want to thank Christopher for his contribution to Versus over six seasons, during which I have been able to appreciate his extraordinary talent. Working with young talented people and seeing them grow and develop as I have seen Christopher do over these years, is one of the most rewarding parts of my work. I wish him all the best for the development of his own line. He will always have my total support."

In return, Kane said he was “grateful” to Donatella for her support and the opportunities provided at the house of Versus.

"I respect (Donatella) enormously and have learned so much from her,” said Kane. “I have loved and appreciated working with her and will always be indebted to her. I am excited about the new Versus strategy, but the time has come to dedicate all my focus to the future of the Christopher Kane label."
