John Galliano Sues Christian Dior

Former Christian Dior creative director, John Galliano, is apparently suing Christian Dior for €15 million (approx $20 million) following his public firing from the company last year.

Galliano was famously caught out making anti-Semitic slurs at a Paris café, which was caught on video and promptly led to his dismissal from Dior as well as his own label, John Galliano.

The Telegraph UK reports that Galliano has lodged an employee/employer dispute claim for over €15 million at the Conseil des Prud'hommes, “with a Paris hearing scheduled for February 4, 2013. Though it’s unknown exactly why Galliano is suing Dior, it’s suspected unfair dismissal will be on the cards.

It’s the latest controversy in the tangled tale, which recently saw Galliano stripped of his prestigious Legion of Honour Award by French President, François Hollande.

“The award is traditionally given for services to France, with other decorated fashion luminaries numbering Hubert de Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Azzedine Alaïa, Franca Sozzani, Marc Jacobs and Anna Wintour,” said the Telegraph UK.

While the fashion industry has a reputation for being quite forgiving (think the Kate Moss cocaine scandal) it seems this is one story that can’t be buried.

What are your thoughts? Should John Galliano be suing Dior for unfair dismissal, or did he deserve to be fired?
