The MAFS 'fights' we didn't see as affair's finally exposed
The biggest scandal of Married At First Sight came to an explosive blow during tonight’s episode when Sam admitted to having an affair with Ines.
And the confession was only the beginning of the drama, as Cyrell’s shouting matching in defence of Elizabeth led to Ines storming out of the commitment ceremony.
It’s now been revealed that there was “friction between everyone” in the cast and therefore “fighting” as a result of the Sam and Ines saga, and the commitment ceremony could’ve got very close to turning into a physical “fight”.
“It was crazy, obviously when they [Sam and Ines] started to reveal what had happened,” MAFS star Melissa Lucarelli tells Yahoo Lifestyle.
“From where I was sitting, I was facing the other way. I could see Sam, but I couldn’t see Ines behind me apparently sniggering which set Cyrell off.
“I honestly thought when Ines went to stand up and walk out that she was standing up to have a fight with Cyrell,” explains Mel. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, it is on’. But she was actually just standing up to walk out, and I think Nic grabbed Cyrell.”
Melissa says the tension in the room was very intense, with a lot of anger being harboured by some of the contestants.
“Cyrell was defending Liz, who is obviously her really good friend,” says Mel. “Ines would only come back in if Cyrell was removed from the room. Cyrell wouldn’t have let her speak because she would’ve just been yelling at her.”
What’s more, this wasn’t just a trying situation for Sam, Ines, Elizabeth, Bronson and well, Cyrell. It was the whole MAFS cast that had to bear the brunt of the controversial affair.
“Even though they had the affair, it doesn’t just affect them,” reveals Mel.
“It affects the whole group because that’s when all the rumours started happening and everyone started fighting.
“All the lies and the rumours and that, it starts to cause all friction between everyone. So really when they’re doing that, it creates not a good vibe within the group.”
Tonight ‘married’ couples Sam and Elizabeth, and Bronson and Ines, chose to leave the televised social experiment for good.
Mel says Ines’ partner Bronson was so shocked by the cheating, that “he didn’t even react”.
“I think he was more hurt by Sam,” she explains. “Both the girls and guys asked them [Sam and Ines] straight out and they lied to their face and I think that’s probably what hurt the most.”
Married At First Sight continues at 7:30pm on Channel Nine.
