MAFS: Heartbreaking scene cut from Caitlin's emotional breakdown

Married At First Sight viewers were left stunned during Tuesday night’s episode when Shannon Adams confessed to his wife Caitlin McConville that he didn't find her attractive and blamed her appearance for the fact he hadn’t ended things with his ex.

Shannon, who admitted at the previous commitment ceremony that he was still in love with his ex-fiancée and the mother of his child, brutally told Caitlin about his feelings towards her following an eye-gazing task as part of Intimacy Week.

“You are a good-looking girl, but just not in my eyes,” he said. “I thought you were going to come down that aisle and completely blow me away.

“Honestly, those things that I was saying about my ex, I wouldn’t have even contemplated saying that. I would’ve just cut it, completely forgot it. That stuff shouldn’t have been an issue.”

Caitlin was understandably distraught by her partner’s admission and sobbed uncontrollably when speaking with producers.

“That whole conversation was just about how I’m not good enough,” she said through tears. “How if I had walked down that aisle and blown him away, none of that stuff with his ex would’ve happened. Like it was all my fault.

“I’ve done nothing but support him and tell him it’s okay and tell him he deserves to be here and have his back.

“I came here because I wanted to find love and I wanted someone to love me.”

'It was all too much'

While the emotional scenes were undeniably hard for viewers to watch, Yahoo Lifestyle can reveal the moment was a lot more heartbreaking in real life.

After Shannon reduced Caitlin to tears, a source tells Yahoo Lifestyle that she suffered a panic attack and had to stop filming for some time whilst completely distraught.

“Caitlin is a lot more insecure than a lot of people realise and Shannon going at her over her appearance really hit her hard,” the insider claims.

“She had a panic attack and was unable to speak afterwards and needed to take a break from filming as it was all too much.”

This comes after Shannon ranked Caitlin second in the infamous photo ranking challenge during Confessions Week, only to move her to third place upon further consideration.

“I’m just getting all the honesty out because I think that’s the logic of the task,” he said. “It’s just ‘cos I know more about you and those emotional sides sort of kick in. You know, I haven’t seen these girls without make-up on either and I’ve seen you without make-up on.”
