MAFS experts defend controversial Ines
It’s fair to say, Married At First Sight contestant Ines Basic hasn’t won over many fans during her time on the show.
Instead, the 27-year-old legal assistant has left viewers gobsmacked by her blunt and outright rude behaviour towards TV husband Bronson, who she is currently attempting to cheat on with fellow contestant Sam Ball.
However, according to the show’s relationship experts John Aitken and Melisssa Schilling, Ines really isn’t as bad as many people think – or at least she doesn’t intend to be.

After speaking to her behind the scenes, John revealed that he can understand why she comes across as quite guarded and it’s largely to do with her childhood experiences.
“What I saw is a woman who has come from a pretty traumatic upbringing from war-torn Bosnia, so you have walls up and she’s very resilient, very independent,” John told News.com.au.
Fellow expert Mel Schilling also agreed, saying, “I don’t think she is as harsh as people are perceiving”.
“I think if you watch her closely you can see, it’s almost like she has remorse after she makes a really harsh comment.”
“It’s almost like she is saying to herself, ‘Oh, it’s too late, I’ve gone down this road and I have to keep going’,” Mel added.
It’s not the first time she has come to the star’s defence either. In last Sunday night’s episode, things became very heated between Ines and Bronson, to the point where Bronson lost his cool and dropped the c-bomb in reference to his TV wife.
Immediately Mel called him out on it and warned, “A tip from me to you: Don’t use language like that if you want any chance of a relationship”.
However given the nature of Ines’ behaviour throughout the course of the show, fans weren’t too happy about the way Mel defended her over Bronson – so much so that a that a petition was started to have the MAFS expert sacked from the show.
Mel has since defended the move, saying, “I’m gender-blind in that role”.
“As experts sitting on that couch we are not privy to everything that happens to the participants during the week,” she told 9Honey.
“That’s all I was responding to; what was happening there in the moment without the benefit of that information about what had happened in the wedding and the honeymoon. We only saw what was happening in front of us.”
