MAFS expert says cheating is like 'a hit of heroin'

From Ines and Sam to Jess and Dan, there’s been a fair bit of cheating going on during this season of Married At First Sight.

As we all know, being unfaithful is going to hurt a lot of other hearts along the way, yet some people still do it.

MAFS expert Dr Trisha Stratford’s theory for the reason behind cheating actually links the acts of deceit to the ‘addiction’ some experience during drug use.

In an interview from 2017 during the show’s fourth season, Dr Stratford said cheaters enjoy “the buzz” which is like “a hit of heroin”.

“It’s usually about relationship addiction,” she said in the chat published on the 9Now website.

“For them the exciting thing is the chase and then once they’ve conquered the person they usually only stay to be with them for a while and they go on to the next.”

One of the biggest MAFS storylines at the moment is Jess and Dan’s secret affair.

A promo for Sunday night’s episode shows Jess and Dan come clean about their cheating, before proposing the idea they re-enter the experiment as a brand new couple.

“I came into this wanting to find somebody that I could build a life with,” Jess tells the show’s experts at the commitment ceremony.

“I’ve found that but it’s not with Mick… It’s with Dan,” she confesses.

Perhaps the biggest internal dilemma will now lie with the experts, John Aiken, Mel Schilling, and Dr Stratford, who have to decide whether they’ll facilitate Jess and Dan’s request to come back as a new couple.
