MAFS EXCLUSIVE: Dom and Ella call for major changes next year

The season nine brides have plenty of thoughts on the reality show.

They were the breakout stars on last year’s season of Married At First Sight, and now Domenica Calarco and Ella Ding have shared their surprising thoughts on the future of the reality TV show.

Speaking with Yahoo Lifestyle, the Sit With Us podcast hosts and best friends share that they think the series should be taken off the air next year.

“I personally think that they need to have a break, just to refresh,” Dom says.

“I think so too,” Ella agrees. “Let’s just chill for a sec and come back with a really good plan. It keeps it exciting as well I think.”

Dom adds that she’d like to see next season’s couples living in different apartment buildings so there’s no way they can mingle or create drama away from the camera.

“I know it's easy for them with the filming, but I’d really like to see them separate and they just come in together really at the dinner parties,” she details. “That would make such a huge difference.”

“I think that our season was so good because we were actually in lockdown and our rules were a lot stricter,” Ella says. “We had people standing outside our door and we couldn't leave. [They're] literally security guards and we'd peek over the windows and he'd be standing there and you’re like, okay we’re not going outside.

“So I feel like with MAFS they need to be in lockdown because the storyline stays and everything happens on camera.”

'Amp it up a bit'

While the duo assert that they don’t have any problems with the show’s three experts John Aiken, Mel Schilling and Alessandra Rampolla, they believe the series could benefit from some additional help.

“I love John, but maybe they could amp it up a bit and put another expert on there,” Dom says.

“And be even harsher!” Ella remarks. "But also, they kind of are, they just don’t air a lot because you are on the couch for about an hour per couple. You're at the commitment ceremony for like eight to nine hours but they only show like ten minutes.”

Ella went on to suggest that she and Dom could even return to the show as experts instead of participants.

“Put us on there as experts for once!” she laughs. “For one episode, just one commitment ceremony. We’d be like bad cop, good cop!”
