In the midst of the drama surrounding Billy and Susie’s imploding relationship, many fans missed an editing fail that took place on Tuesday’s Married at First Sight episode.

The blunder came when Susie’s dad Steve came to visit the couple at their homestay, after his daughter reportedly called him in tears over the state of her marriage.

After the surprise appearance, Steve took his TV son-in-law for a stern talking to on the house’s verandah where a choppy editing sequence featured a disappearing glass and cigarette.

As Steve says, “I don’t like many people and I’ll tell you right now, if you can’t handle her you’re a dead man,” he’s seen lighting up a cigarette and holding it in one hand, while swirling a drink in the other.

The camera then swaps to a shot where Steve throws both hands up in clear view of the lens – neither of which are holding a cigarette.

Just seconds later Steve is captured back puffing on another lit cigarette, leaving eagle-eyed viewers scratching their heads at how the conversation had been altered for effect.

“You have to be a smart boy, you have to grab her heart, and if you can do that you’re a winning man,” Steve told his son-in-law about his tumultuous relationship.

The blunder came shortly before Susie and Billy’s rocky relationship reached breaking point and as a typically timid Billy unleashed on his onscreen wife.

“I don’t mean to be spiteful or anything, but this experience has been one of the worst of my life,” he said before exiting their shared home.
