MAFS' Al Perkins responds to secret girlfriend rumours: 'Lovey-dovey'

He claimed he'd never had a girlfriend before tying the knot with a complete stranger on this season of Married At First Sight but a recently resurfaced snap has landed groom Al Perkins in hot water.

The Instagram photo, which was reportedly posted in May last year, shows the 25-year-old Bondi local with an arm around a blonde woman named Maddy.

'Not official'

The pair appear very much the couple, with Maddy wishing her "prince charming" a happy 25th birthday in the caption.

She went on to thank him for "always putting a smile" on her face" as friends gushed over the "beautiful couple" in the comments section.

But according to carpenter Al, who wed Samantha Moitzi on MAFS, despite the "lovey-dovey" nature of the pic he and Maddy were never officially an item.

"We met up probably about four times last year," Al revealed on Hit Breakfast with Allan & Carly on Tuesday.

"And then she moved overseas and we stopped talking," he added.

Al acknowledged that since their "little photo together" has resurfaced it has become a "talking point".

When host Carly Portch asked if Al and Maddy were 'actually' together Al confirmed that they were not.

"I guess I'm pretty lovey-dovey, but nah, it was never official. She's a cool chick."

Meanwhile, Al and his 'bride' Sam got off to a rocky start at their wedding, with Al's exuberant antics prompting Sam's concerns about his maturity level.

Despite stating she wanted to be paired with a 'man not a boy,' the MAFS experts matched Sam, 26, with the season's youngest groom who can't cook or do his own laundry and still lives at home with his mum.
