MAFS 2024: Surprise move as show shifts from 'wannabe influencers'

Season 11 set to star show's 'oldest-ever groom'.

Filming for Married At First Sight’s 2024 season is well underway with another couple spotted tying the knot at Mount Tamborine in Queensland last week.

A source told Yahoo Lifestyle that the newly married couple features the reality show's oldest-ever groom, Richard Sauerman, 62, who looked thrilled to be meeting and marrying his new bride, Andrea Thompson.

According to a show’s source, the eleventh season of MAFS is set to focus on the love stories as well as the drama the show is renowned for.

“Producers didn’t want another cast full of young wannabe influencers, so this year they’re including more older couples, including the oldest groom to ever appear on the show,” the insider told us.

The last time the show saw a mature-age couple wed was with the matching of John Robertson and Melissa Walsh, who were 55 and 53 respectively when they appeared on the 2018 season of MAFS. The couple split shortly after season five finished airing.

Experts John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla spoke to Yahoo Lifestyle at the TV WEEK Logie Awards recently, with John saying “diversity” is the word he’d use to describe the 2024 cast.

“Well, we always like to make a splash,” he said, with Alessandra agreeing.

“I am as surprised as everybody as to how things progress along the way,” Alessandra said. “I’ve spoken to some interesting people that I have very high hopes for, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
