Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Johnny Van Zant Reveals Youngest Daughter Was Hospitalized with Brain Mass: ‘Keep Saying Prayers’

The frontman shared the news after the legendary rock group canceled multiple September performances

Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Johnny Van Zant is asking fans to "say a prayer" for his youngest daughter and his family after her health scare.

On Thursday, Sept. 26, the 64-year-old vocalist of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group revealed in a Facebook and Instagram video that his daughter, Taylor, was treated at an emergency room after having a "numbing feeling on her right side," before doctors discovered a mass on her brain this week.

The news came just days after the band canceled a performance in Alaska and later canceled four additional September concerts in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico, citing the "emergency illness" and Van Zant leaving their tour to be with his daughter while doctors "continue testing, diagnosis and treatment."

In his latest Facebook update, Van Zant told fans that doctors found a mass on her brain following a CAT scan and emergency room visit.

"Some of it was bleeding, that was causing the numbing part," Van Zant explained. "Saying this, we've had her with a great neurology team, a group of doctors and they don't think its the C-word, so that's a good thing."

"But they're still doing a lot of testing and we're not out of the woods yet, but we're in a lot better position than we thought we were in the beginning."

Van Zant then encouraged his followers to "keep saying prayers" for Taylor, adding that "it means everything to me and my family."

After sharing the news of his daughter, Van Zant — who first joined the rock group in 1987 — also asked Skynyrd fans to keep bus driver Brad Gibson in their thoughts, after he was in the ICU following a scooter accident while apparently on his way to get a card for Van Zant's family.

"I want to get Brad back on his feet, along with Taylor, so if you guys could say a prayer for Brad and his family," he said. "... But hey, I'm gonna tell you this, ’cause that's what I'm doing now and I always tell you guys to. I'm gonna look up, myself, always look up. So you guys do the same. God bless you all and thank you."

The latest show that Lynyrd Skynyrd canceled was set for Sept. 29 in Albuquerque, N.M. The group recently performed at CMA Fest with ZZ Top, and the next performance for the group is set for June 2025 in Little Eau Claire, Wis., per the group's website.
