Luke Wilson reacts to Drew Barrymore and Kate Hudson's failed prank call: 'Very eighth-grade'
Barrymore and Hudson accidentally prank called the wrong Luke Wilson during a 2023 segment on "The Drew Barrymore Show."
It’s been two years, but Luke Wilson is finally weighing in on the time his ex-girlfriend Drew Barrymore and Kate Hudson tried (and failed) to prank call him on The Drew Barrymore Show.
The Legally Blonde actor, who dated Barrymore from 1996 until 1998, found himself getting unexpectedly swept up in the actresses’ shenanigans when Barrymore attempted to prank him during Hudson's visit to the show in January 2023. However, the pair soon discovered that they’d accidentally dialed Lucas Wilson instead.
Barrymore asked Wilson if he’d heard about the mix-up during his recent visit to the show. “I did,” he said. “It was very odd, because that week I go to the coffee shop and people are like, ‘Hey, Drew and Kate were trying to call you.’ I was like, ‘Drew and Kate who?’”
The host jokingly explained that crank calls were the type of feel-good, no harm stunts that she enjoyed pulling on her show. “It had a very eighth-grade type feel to it," Wilson admitted.
And, to ensure that they'd properly closed the loop, the friendly exes decided to film a short video on Barrymore's phone to send over to Hudson. “Okay, guess what: we finally closed the circle,” the actress said, before panning the camera over to reveal Wilson sitting beside her.
“I don’t appreciate being pranked called and neither does the guy that you called!" He teased. "Please call the correct number next time and I’ll definitely answer. We miss ya!”

Barrymore also made a point to note in their video that she had obtained Wilson's correct number now.
Barrymore and Hudson’s prank quickly went off the rails when they realized the Luke Wilson they were speaking to didn't exactly sound like Luke Wilson. “You looking for the actor?” The man asked with a laugh. “That’s not me.”
Instead, Wilson revealed that he knew Barrymore because he’d starred in an uncredited role in her 1999 film, Never Been Kissed. "I'm so sorry!” The host replied. “We're crank-calling people right now.”
