Lukas Gage Craved Attention ‘More Than Anything in the World’ — So He Wrote a Memoir (Exclusive)
‘I Wrote This for Attention’ will cover the 'White Lotus' star's coming-of-age in San Diego, journey toward stardom and experiences with sex, addiction and more
Lukas Gage isn’t afraid to admit that he craves the spotlight — and now, he’s writing a book to prove it.
PEOPLE can exclusively share the cover of I Wrote This for Attention, a new memoir from the White Lotus and Euphoria star, 29, that hits shelves this fall from Simon & Schuster.
The book was inspired, in part, during a particularly difficult week in Gage’s life, per the memoir’s synopsis. As his grandmother lay dying, Gage sat next to his father, who was largely absent throughout his childhood, scrolling through his phone.
There, he found that people online were accusing him of being attention-seeking — to which the actor, who did everything from setting his room on fire to flirting with Hooters waitresses as a kid, agreed.
"Lukas was scared of attention and yet he craved it more than anything in the world," the synopsis reads.
In turn, I Wrote This For Attention details Gage’s coming-of-age in San Diego in a “broken” family, his journey toward stardom and his experiences with sex, addiction and, of course, “his commitment to being the center of attention at all times.”

The memoir, described as “riveting” and "exquisite" by its publisher, and "as unhinged and heartwarming as Lukas is” by Riley Keough is “a remarkable achievement of healing, of vaping through therapy sessions and of having the courage to forgive the family that hurt you and set yourself free," according to an official synopsis.
“This book is raw, provocative, chaotic, and — dare I say — slutty. Wait, sorry, that was me describing Lukas Gage,” says author Colleen Hoover of the memoir. “The book, though, is every bit of that and more. A must-read for anyone who’s a fan of Lukas (or even if you can’t stand him).”
Mike White, The White Lotus’ Emmy-winning writer and director, says, “For a self-proclaimed pathological liar, Lukas Gage is brutally honest. And for an exhibitionistic chaos agent with a borderline personality disorder, he is entirely relatable. This insightful memoir will earn your attention with its humor and its heartbreak.”
Gage has also starred in shows like You and Fargo, as well as the films Road House and Smile 2. He co-writes and stars alongside Zachary Quinto and Simon Rex in Down Low.

In a 2023 PEOPLE digital cover story, the actor spoke about navigating life in the public eye. “There are just some areas in my life that I don't want to shout out to the world on anyone's accord but my own," he said, at the time.

"I think we're all just trying to navigate where that line intersects with keeping some things private and some things public because you are a public figure," he said. "It's a double-edged sword, and it's an interesting line that I'm still figuring out."
I Wrote This For Attention will be published on Oct. 14 and is now available for preorder, wherever books are sold.
