Lukas Gage apologizes to Shania Twain for 'wasting' her time singing at his wedding after his quick divorce
"I mean, ‘We're still holding on, you're still the one' after, like, three weeks? That was unhinged."
Lukas Gage is ready to address his very brief marriage to Chris Appleton — and he'd like to start by apologizing to Shania Twain.
During Tuesday’s episode of Watch What Happens Live, host Andy Cohen opened the floodgates by asking Gage whose idea it was for him and Appleton to get hitched in matching fur coats. The White Lotus star shook his head, firmly declaring, “Not mine.”
“Did someone from the Kardashians TV show hand you fur coats and say, ‘You’re getting married in these right now?’” Cohen asked.
“Literally, I don’t know what went through my head. I don’t know what happened. The fur coats was a horrible idea,” Gage said, before pivoting to the bigger issue at hand: Shania Twain singing at the ceremony.
“I want to apologize to Shania Twain for wasting her time," Gage said.
Ahead of their vows in Las Vegas, the country star serenaded the couple with her 1998 hit “You’re Still the One." While Gage, a longtime fan, said having her participate in his nuptials was “really cool,” the song choice triggered some regret.
“I mean, ‘We’re still holding on, you’re still the one’ after, like, three weeks? That was unhinged,” he said. “That was like the biggest waste of her time. But, I love you, Shania. I’m really sorry about that.”
Gage also issued a public mea culpa to Kim Kardashian, a friend and client of celebrity hairstylist Appleton, who officiated the wedding — which was then featured as a plot point in an episode of The Kardashians.
“Kim’s great,” Gage said. “She was really sweet to fly us all out and take care of us and pay for everything.”
Cohen asked, “And put you on her show?,” to which Gage replied with a laugh, saying, “Yeah, sorry to Kim and Shania.”
Gage and Appleton initially sparked romance rumors in February 2023 and confirmed their relationship the following month. By April, they had privately tied the knot in Vegas and were spotted wearing matching wedding bands. After a little more than six months together, however, Appleton filed for divorce in November, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
Gage elaborated more on the relationship in his interview on WWHL, though he was reluctant to delve too deep, implying that he signed a nondisclosure agreement that prevents him from discussing the finer details.
“I had a manic episode for six months,” Gage said of the marriage. “Those jackets, those furry jackets… I don’t know, literally, what went through my head, but we live and we learn.”
Asked to say more, Gage denied rumors that either he or Appleton had cheated, adding, “Oh God, Andy, there’s a three-letter thing that I signed…” before trailing off.
But Gage did slip in one snarky remark: When Cohen asked if he at least got to enjoy the perks of dating a hairstylist, Gage responded, “I will just say, while that was happening, I’ve never had my hair look like that before.”
“It's never looked better?” Cohen inquired.
"Never looked worse," Gage corrected.
As for his decision to get married in the first place, Gage joked, “That’s kind of how I roll. I’m a little impulsive. You know me. But that was probably one of the most unhinged things I’ve ever done in my life... and I’ll probably have six other marriages."
