Louis XIII Just Dropped a Limited-Edition Cognac for the Lunar New Year

Lunar New Year is just about two weeks away, and several well-known booze brands are releasing special limited-edition bottles to commemorate 2025, also known as the Year of the Snake. One of these is luxury Cognac brand Louis XIII, which collaborated with Chinese artist Liu Li Hong to design the coffret that this high-end bottle comes in.

Louis XIII was created in 1874, and in the 150 years since then this Cognac has become a symbol of luxury that is immediately recognizable for its ornate and eye-catching decanters. The liquid is a blend of up to 1,200 eaux-de-vie from Grand Champagne, according to the brand, some of which are aged for decades in Limousin oak tierçons in the Remy Martin cellars before being selected by the cellar masters for their specific quality and flavor. The liquid in this bottle is the same Louis XIII that you know and (very likely) love, but the design is what makes this new release stand out. As mentioned before, Hong designed the coffret, or box, that the decanter comes in, with a papercut marked with a traditional Chinese stamp of winter jasmine and a snake to represent the Year of the Snake on the front. This is limited-edition release has a price tag of $4,200 and is available to purchase directly from the Louis XIII virtual boutique.

This is not the only Cognac release celebrating the Lunar New Year. Remy Martin, the Cognac house that produces Louis XIII, is also releasing the new Remy Martin x Huang Yuxing collection. This includes two expressions, XO and 1738 Accord Royal, that come in boxes designed by Chinese artist Huang Yuxing, who was inspired by his painting Majestic Serpentine. Hennessy is also getting in on the celebration with a collaboration with Shanghai designer Shuting Qiu, who crafted new bottles for the house’s V.S.O.P., X.O., and high-end Paradis expressions.

And Martell has two new releases: the Cordon Bleu Lunar New Year Limited Edition by Wu Jian’an for $200 and much more expensive ($12,500, to be exact) L’Or de Jean Martell Zodiac Edition-Assemblage du Serpent. The latter release is a blend of over 1,400 eaux-de-vie from four of the regions in Cognac that comes in a very unique decanter with 19-carat gold on the neck in a run of just 500 bottles. In the tequila world, Don Julio has a new Year of the Snake Edition, and scotch whisky is represented by Johnnie Walker’s second collaboration with artist James Jean on a new Blue Label design.
