London’s best hairdressers for women that are under £60 for a haircut

There was a time in the not too foggy past when a rotation of a hair cut, maybe some highlights, a manicure, a wax, and facial comprised the average beauty routine. Sometimes you could do all of them in the one hallowed place, meaning you’d check in a bit ragged and emerge radiant after a few hours.

We no longer live in such times. The aforementioned are basics, upon which you may well pile any number of treatments from eyelash curling to eyebrow lamination to polynucleotides to hair removal lasers to medical pedicures to cryotherapy – and so on and so forth. The possibilities – and associated costs – are endless.

But the basics must remain, even as ever more innovative treatments vie for our attention and money. This is especially the case when it comes to hair, which when left untrimmed for too long always looks tired and ratty, and so a cut at least every now and then essential. They needn’t be extortionate, though. You may even be able to nab one for a mere £20 at one of the below.

Sassoon Academy

Haircuts from £5, 16-17 Greek Street, Soho, London W1D 4DR, academy.sassoon-global.com

I know £5 sounds like a terrifyingly tiny amount, like you may emerge with some insane experimental haircut, but, no: you get to choose the cut, and all levels from newbies to salon owners come here to hone their skills in a teaching environment. The downside? You may be in there for up to three hours – but small price to pay for so small a price to pay.

Btw, the £5 cut only happens every now and then when a lot of models are needed at once (they do shoutouts on their instagram @mysassoonhair when this is the case). Otherwise, you’re looking at around £20 for a cut year round.

Windle London

Haircuts from £60, 41-45 Short's Gardens, London WC2H 9AP, windlelondon.com

Known for their bespoke approach and the friendly environment, Windle London are the choice of many a beauty insider – though fortunately they’ve made sure the salon is accessible to one and all, and their stylist Suzanne Griffin, who’s been there for over three years, is just one of their stylists who offers a cut for £60.

DKUK

Haircuts from £56, 191 Queen's Road, London, SE15 2NG, dkuk.biz

If you hate being confronted with your reflection in the mirror for the hour or so the hairdresser is cutting away, DKUK should be on your list of places to try; they cut without the horror of making you sit lit from above before a mirror, showing you your hair later in the process before offering you the oppoortunity to ask for tweaks. This is another salon offering gender-neutral pricing, so the lowest cost one, at £56, is for a crop sitting above the ear.

Jo Hansford

Haircuts from £25, 48 South Audley Street, Mayfair, London, W1K 2QB, johansford.com

One of the most respected – and fancy – salons in London offers cuts and colour at bargain prices on their training days (which are overseen by senior educators, so you don’t need to worry about navigating potential disasters). If you’re interested in being a training model, e-mail them at tainingmodels@johandsford.com.
