'Exact moment' Lisa Wilkinson decided to leave Today
Lisa Wilkinson has opened a can of worms or two since joining The Project, and her latest is the most eyebrow-raising yet.
The former Today host spilled on an embarrassing segment the show aired almost a decade ago, joking that it may have been the moment she decided to wash her hands of the morning show.
The comment was made during a special episode celebrating the panel show’s 10-year anniversary.
The panellists reflected on some of the show’s finest, and funniest, moments with former team members Charlie Pickering, Dave Hughes and James Mathison returning to join Carrie Bickmore, Waleed Ali and the new faces of the show.
The Project’s special night was somewhat upstaged by a throwback to one of Lisa’s most embarrassing moment, not on the news program but on her former gig with Today.
The footage aired during the 2010 Winter Olympics, showed an accidentally suggestive Wii game demonstration done by Lisa and co-host Karl Stefanovic, to the evident horror of a mortified Lisa.
“I mean, I thought things got steamy in the back of an Uber at the Today show, that was pretty full on,” Peter Helliar joked, further torturing the red-faced host.
She admitted the segment was not the best, going so far as to joke it was behind her move to The Project.
“You know that was the exact moment when I decided, I think I want to go to channel 10!” she laughed.
She clarified that once she cottoned on to the accidentally rude nature of the segment she tried to rectify the situation, but it was certainly a case of too little too late.
Lisa left Today over a pay dispute with Nine almost seven years later in 2017.
