Lisa Wilkinson has had an embarrassing moment broadcast around the nation, after her ‘relatable’ comment fell flat.

The Project host was outed by co-host Peter Helliar after a segment on a pre-school’s safe fire lighting program aired.

Peter revealed Lisa had made a startling admission about a fascination she had growing up, that no one else seemed to share.

“I just asked all of you... because I thought every kid went through a pyro phase where you're just a bit obsessed with fire,” she said.

She went on to explain that she and her brother would light fires when they felt like it, sometimes after school, for no conceivable reason beyond just watching something burn.

“I don't know why. We literally just lit a fire and watched it, and then went inside,” she laughed.

It wasn’t all fun and games however, the former Today host admitted that things blew up on at least one occasion, when her dad revealed their jaunts with the flammable had resulted in a burnt-down fence.

Peter eventually put his hand up, admitting that on at least one occasion he dabbled with flames.

He clarified that though he remembered ‘one explosion’ he wasn’t on Lisa’s level of self-admitted ‘obsession’.

The Project has had it’s fair share of awkward moments, earlier in the week Carrie Bickmore back-peddled furiously after almost offending a guest with an uncomfortable gaffe.
