Lauren Graham Reveals 'Gilmore Girls' Revival Idea
Gilmore Girls was a hit show for The WB/The CW from 2000 to 2007 and became such a cult classic over the years that in 2016, Netflix revived it with a four-part revival miniseries called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
Now nine years later, star Lauren Graham has revealed that she would definitely return to Stars Hollow, and she has the perfect idea for how to make that happen.
On Wednesday's (April 9) episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, host Drew Barrymore asked Graham if she would be up for more Gilmore Girls, and the answer was an emphatic yes.
"Yes. I always say yes because it's my favorite character, it's my favorite…for me to go back [in 2016], I was on a cloud. It was pure joy," said Graham.
She went on to pitch her idea of how to revive Gilmore Girls once again.
"Something that I love that they do in England more than they do here, is you have a season of a show that you loved — Downton Abbey was one for me — and then they do like a Downton Abbey Christmas…so you get to visit your characters, but it's not like a whole reboot of the whole thing. So that is my idea that has been sanctioned by no one," said Graham with a laugh.
Barrymore immediately replied, "I think if it was a Gilmore Girls Christmas, everyone would be there. 100 percent."
Based on the raucous cheers from the studio audience and the comments on the YouTube video, Barrymore is absolutely right.
"Gilmore Girls need to come back. We already know Rory’s pregnant so she can step [into] the role in being the grandmother and see how that goes. Let’s do it people put it in motion.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤," wrote one fan.
Another added, "They say Lauren Graham, I say I'm here ❤."
"Somebody listen to Lauren! 🔊 A Xmas movie 😍😍," wrote a third commenter.
In the interview, Graham also talked about how special it is that people keep finding Gilmore Girls or sharing it with younger generations, and she thinks she "just never could have predicted that" back when it first started.
"I started watching Gilmore Girls at [age] 10 thinking Rory was such a role model, and I couldn’t wait to grow up and be like her. Now I’m 32 and I watch it back and can equate so much with Lorelai and I have a daughter now. This show will never ever not be relevant to me," affirmed a commenter on the video.
All seven seasons of the original Gilmore Girls plus the Year in the Life miniseries are available to stream on Netflix.
