Lady Gaga's 'redneck' election video backfires: 'Cringe AF'

Lady Gaga’s latest push to urge people in swing states to vote in the US election has backfired after she was accused of ‘mocking rednecks’.

The 34-year-old Shallow singer took to her Twitter account to upload a video of herself dressed in camouflage gear and standing next to a truck.

“Hey, this is Lady Gaga. I'm voting for America, which means I'm voting for Joe Bidenm,” she said.

“And if you live in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Florida, or Arizona, I encourage you to vote.”

Gaga can then be seen in the video taking a swig of the beer before crushing it in her hand and throwing it on the ground.

While the video may have been well intentioned, some voters weren’t impressed by her effort, with some even claiming it was ‘patronising’.

“I don’t own a truck, never worn camo or drank a beer so if this is your idea of #TrumpSupporters you’re dead wrong we’re college educated, hard working people who love our country but nice try GaGa,” one person said.

“She’s wearing camouflage next to a big truck drinking beer in a sad attempt to relate with conservatives to steer their votes blue. This just shows how disconnected Hollywood is from conservative culture.This comes off fake and patronizing,” another wrote online.

“Stunts like this, are exactly why Trump is going to win. Average, hardworking Americans are sick of “celebrities” mocking them for what they wear, drive, eat, drink, and where they choose to work or live,” another person wrote.

Others called it “cringe AF” and said it makes them “not want to vote at all”.

“Pretty sure this isn't sending the message you think it is ... lol,” one person wrote.

“Why would you take one sip of your beer and throw it on the ground?” another said.

Trump and Gaga have engaged in somewhat of a Twitter spat in recent days, with the president tweeting on Monday:” Just learned that Sleepy Joe Biden is campaigning in Pennsylvania with Lady Gaga, a proud member of ‘Artists Against Fracking.’ This is more proof that he would ban Fracking and skyrocket your energy prices.”

Fracking is the process of drilling into the earth to release natural gas and oil and Lady Gaga is not famous for being an anti-fracking activist.

Gaga responded to the Trump campaign’s communications director, Tim Murtaugh, writing: “HEY TIM HEY @realDonaldTrump SO HAPPY IM GLAD TO BE LIVING RENT FREE in your HEAD. #BidenHarris”
