Kyle Sandilands reveals devastating connection to horror Bondi stabbing
The radio host became emotional on air as he spoke about the horrific incident that left 6 people dead.
Kyle Sandilands broke down live on his KIIS FM radio show as he revealed his connection to the horrifying stabbing attack that unfolded at Westfield Bondi Junction over the weekend. The incident saw a 40-year-old man, Joel Cauchi, take the lives of six people and leave many others injured before being shot and killed by a NSW police officer.
Speaking about the tragedy on air, Kyle explained that one of his family members had been stabbed by Cauchi during the attack.
“One of the first women to get stabbed in the shoulder was a family member of ours," Kyle said, referring to victim Yvonne Wineberg. “She’s a very close family member to my wife (Tegan Kynaston)."
The radio host revealed that they had discovered their connection to the incident as they watched TV and saw Yvonne being "carted off to hospital."

Kyle went on to relay the heroic efforts of a Bondi lifeguard, Andy 'Reidy' Reid, who had been in Myer - which was locked down - but saw Yvonne lying on the ground and requested to be let out of the store so that he could go and help her.
“He said, ‘if I don’t get to her, she’s losing too much blood’, so they let him out, and he rendered assistance before the paramedics arrived," Kyle explained.
He continued, “He (Andy) said every 50 foot there was another person laying in a pile of blood — all the way down the mall."
Thankfully, Yvonne survived the horror attack and was released from hospital on Sunday.
Police identified Joel Cauchi, who moved to Sydney a month ago, as the attacker on Sunday. According to Cauchi's family, he had a long history of mental illness and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
In a statement released on their behalf by Queensland Police, Cauchi’s parents, Andrew and Michele, said Joel’s actions were “truly horrific”.
“We are absolutely devastated by the traumatic events that occurred in Sydney yesterday,” they said.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims and those still undergoing treatment at this time.
“Joel’s actions were truly horrific and we are still trying to comprehend what has happened. He has battled with mental health issues since he was a teenager."
“We are in contact with both the NSW Police Force and Queensland Police Service and have no issues with the police officer who shot our son as she was only doing her job to protect others and we hope she is coping alright.”
