Sister Wives' Janelle clarifies the Brown family patriarch’s “offer” to help her purchase a home during the latest episode
Kody Brown claims he tried to help ex Janelle buy a home in the latest episode of Sister Wives on Sunday, Feb. 2
In response, Janelle says his "offer" was for her to buy her fellow former sister wife Christine Brown's home, which she didn't want to do
Janelle adds that the division of resources wasn't always fair during their plural marriage, and she could really use some extra money now
Janelle Brown is calling out her ex Kody Brown’s selective memory after he claimed he once tried to help her purchase a home.
In the latest episode of Sister Wives on Sunday, Feb. 2, Janelle embarks on her big move to North Carolina and drives across the country with her former sister wife, Christine Brown. During their road trip, the pair discuss their ex allegedly being unfair with the division of resources both during and after their plural marriage.
Janelle explains in a confessional that Kody and his last remaining wife Robyn try to “revise history” when it comes to how money was split in the past, especially after she sold her Las Vegas home in 2019.
“You know, I really did catch on too late that all of a sudden there's a change in thought that resources weren't for the benefit of the whole family,” Janelle explains. “Seems to be a very big hot button for Kody and Robyn. And they're always trying to revise history about how things were paid or what was paid.”
In a separate confessional clip, Kody disagrees with the claim that things weren’t split evenly by arguing that he tried to help Janelle purchase a home and she wouldn’t let him.
“I tried to help Janelle buy a house and she got mad at me. She wanted that RV lifestyle, I guess,” he says. “Now that everybody's broken up, they want to say, ‘I didn't get something’ or ‘I gave something, but you didn't.’”
The scene cuts back to Janelle’s confessional where she claims Kody is leaving out one important detail.
“So Kody always likes to say, ‘Well, I offered to help you buy a house.’ He wanted me to buy Christine's house, which I didn't really like,” she says. “Look, I would love to have that cash now. It would go a really long way on my new project in North Carolina.”
In December 2024, Janelle revealed she was “putting down some permanent roots” in North Carolina after announcing in a September Instagram post that she and her daughter Maddie were building their project, Taeda Farms, “from the ground up.”
Emphasizing her point, Janelle explains in a confessional how she helped Robyn pay for her current house after selling her Las Vegas abode.
“For two decades it was a combined pot of money and we just took care of whoever needed to be taken care of. It really took me a long time to get out of that mindset,” Janelle says. “I really thought that by putting my resources towards Robyn’s house, that eventually the time would come around, it would be our turn — my turn, Christine's turn, Meri’s turn — whatever. But that never really happened.”

Backing up Janelle, Christine questions why the sale benefitted Robyn and argues that Kody has never been reliable when it comes to shared finances.
“Janelle, when she sold her home in Vegas, the proceeds from the sale of that went into Robyn’s home. It went into Robyn’s home. Why?” Christine says, adding that “anything with finances with [Kody] is just terrible. Yeah, don't sign me up for that.”
Robyn then weighs in during her own confessional and notes how the topic of money is a “tough conversation” for her because she always thought that the division of resources was “balanced” between the wives.
While Robyn has stayed in the plural marriage since 2010, Janelle, Christine and Meri Brown all decided to leave within 14 months of each other. Christine was the first, with her marriage to Kody ending in November 2021. A year later in December 2022, it was revealed that Kody had separated from his second wife, Janelle. His union with wife Meri was over by January 2023.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC.
