Kmart's 'reusable' cups cause a stir: 'What a time to be alive!'

Kmart can generally do no wrong with a host of popular products that generate a near cult following online.

But now a range of ‘reusable’ items has caused quite a stir for a slightly different reason.

“So I don’t want to excite too many of you and have the website crash... but Kmart is selling REUSABLE cups, plates and bowls!!! OMG!,” a person shared in a popular Kmart group on Facebook.

The sarcastic post, which included a shocked emoji, quickly went viral, generating hundreds of comments from people who joked about the novelty of a ‘reusable’ cup, plate, or bowl.

“Well I’ll be damned,” one person quipped, while another said: “What a time to be alive!”

“God damn I’ve been throwing them away all these years after 1 use!” one person joked.

And a third said: “I can finally stop drinking my coffee directly from the kettle.”

And the comments quickly flooded in as people tagged their friends and family in the post as well.

“[You] might want to get these cool reusable cups, not sure if you knew you could reuse them,” one person told a friend, adding a wink emoji.

“Did you know this? Reusable mugs! What will they think of next,” another shared.

Others joked they had been ‘reusing’ their Kmart cups for years.

“But I bought Kmart cups 4 years ago and I still reuse it, I might be a wizard or something I don’t know,” was one response.

“I’ve been reusing mine for decades. Who knew I was wise beyond the times!” another quipped.

As some people pointed out the cups were still an alternative to plastic, and were likely meant for people that were going camping.

The items are made from a blend of bamboo, melamine and corn starch, are BPA free, and Dishwasher safe on the top shelf only, according to Kmart’s website.

“Kick-start your hiking or trek sipping on to your favourite beverage with this handy reusable cup,” the description reads.
