Kmart mum's 'genius' DIY mirror hack for $8 goes viral

The only thing Kmart fans love more than the store’s insane budget buys is a chance to get the chic high-end look for a fraction of the price with a stellar DIY.

Little wonder then that one mum, has sparked something of a meltdown online with an ‘insane’ DIY craft piece that is giving $300 homeware buys a run for their money.

Shared to a Kmart Hacks Facebook page, but first posted on Michelle’s nifty Instagram decor and hacks page Look What I Found the stunning project was nothing short of a show stopper, not least for its impressive savings – many raffia mirror options retail for over $300 online.

“I have made quite a few mirror hacks in the past and when Kmart brought out the Plywood Mirror I knew I had to make something!” Michelle tells Yahoo Lifestyle.

The Instagram sensation decided to share her ingenuity with the Facebook world, sharing a detailed how-to alongside progress photos, to the delight of others desperate to give the crafty hack a go themselves.

Using just glue, paddle pop sticks, raffia trim and the plywood mirror, Michelle says she pulled the whole thing off in about 30 minutes, not a bad half an hours work if you ask us!

Then, she took the raffia trim and layered it on the frame until she had the voluminous edge detail she was after.

The impact was needless to say, stunning, and hundreds rushed to the comments to tell her so.

“Genius,” one woman wrote.

“Love this!” another agreed. “So clever!”

“What an inexpensive way to make such a lovely piece well done,” another noted.

Others were already out the door on their way to do the clever project themselves.

“I’m off to Kmart!” another wrote. “Great job!”

The living room hack comes as Kmart announces their first-ever masterclass using their brand new August Living Range, to give die-hard fans an opportunity to get some decorating and organising ideas as clever as this one for the next few months.
