'Clever' Kmart hack will double your fridge space this Christmas

Christmas is a time of plenty, and that means food, too.

Mince pies, the Christmas ham, pavlova and each culture’s own special dishes – if you don’t walk away from Christmas lunch bursting with good food then you’re not doing the holiday right.

Unfortunately, it’s not just us that end up bursting with food, as preparations, leftovers and goodies flll up our fridges to near breaking point, turning something as basic as returning the butter of a morning into a complex game of high-stakes Jenga.

Now, however, clever parents online have broken the cramming cycle with an almost frustratingly simple hack that will double your fridge space this Christmas.

Doing the rounds on several Facebook groups is a post encouraging us all to use our cooling racks and oven trays as portable shelves to balance on top of items in the fridge.

“Remember to use your cooling racks for extra space around the holidays,” a snap of the original post reads.

In the accompanying photo, several casserole dishes, salad bowls and containers double as extra shelf space thanks to a cooling rack placed on top of them, allowing extra items to be stacked up.

Best of all it makes for easy access, as the racks can be completely lifted out of the shelf, rather than each extra item being shuffled around to release a trapped container.

The cooling racks are easy to get your mitts on as well, from Kmart a set of two will set you back $9.

Online users astounded by ‘ingenious’ hack

Needless to say, the hack has seriously impressed online users who were full of praise and excitement to give the hack a red hot go this Christmas.

A post on a popular Aldi fan page racked up a staggering 5k likes and hundreds of comments in just three days, making a strong case for the hack being this year’s most popular organising trick.

“I got these racks a few years ago from Aldi,” one man wrote in an Aldi fan group. “Seems like a good idea!”

“Ummm that’s genius!” someone agreed. “I never thought of that!”

“Great idea!” another admirer wrote. “Thanks for sharing!”

“Ingenious another dubbed the clever hack.

“Why have I never done this!” one mum bemoaned.

It’s not the first Christmas-specific hack to make waves online this year

Plenty of decoration enthusiasts have jumped on board a budget trend that turns a $2 Kmart pool noodle into a stunning Christmas table centrepiece, using hot glue, baubles and fake snow.

The resulting items have gone semi-viral in recent weeks, becoming the biggest Christmas trend on social media.
