Kids Experience Pure Joy 'Unwrapping' Adorable Miniature Dachshund Puppy
Giving your kids a pet for a present is never going to get any less fun, even as they get older. If you can manage, it's something you should at least consider, even just once. It's so magical!
On Saturday, September 14th, one family finally got to experience this joy when they brought home their new Miniature Dachshund puppy, Dash. The kids had no idea, and when they finally saw him, the excitement on their faces was so pure it honestly might just make you cry:
This is an experience and a memory that @samanthakingdesign and the rest of her family will cherish forever. As an adult whose parents recently got her a puppy for Christmas, I must admit that I reacted almost exactly the same!

The best moment of this video definitely goes to the little boy, who asks, "is that a sausage dog?" That's also exclusively what I called them until I was in my early 20s. His sister is first to sweep up the pup, and I think that goes to show who his person is going to be. Boy dogs just tend to go for the girls!
Since this video was posted, Dash has even started his own Instagram page, where we get to see more of him. He's adjusting very nicely to his new life, and his training seems to be going well - his sister who was holding him in this video was recently teaching him how to walk on a leash! He loves his whole family, and it'll be so fun to see him continue to grow up with them. He's only 9 weeks old! He's got a lot of growing to do!
What Is the Best Age to Give a Kid a Dog?
Kids of all ages are raised with dogs, and every age has its benefits. When your child is still an infant, the dog will typically feel more protective of them. However, a toddler makes a perfect playmate for a young dog, while an older kid knows more about gentle hands and how to treat the things they love.
If you want your child to learn responsibility and care from having a dog, you should wait until they're about 5 years old. That's typically when they've started to become more aware and can remember to do certain tasks on a regular basis. Before then, it's a good idea to have them socialize with dogs on a regular basis just to rule out allergies and the possibility of a fear of dogs!
What matters more than the age of the child is the age of the dog and how it coincides with the child's age. For example, bite-y puppies might not be the best choice to have around a baby, while a "lazy" senior dog might not be quite stimulating enough for a toddler subsisting entirely on chicken nuggets and whatever they've licked off the walls. It looks like Dash is a perfect fit for this sweet family!
