Katy Perry Kisses Orlando Bloom (and Thanks Him for Doing Dishes) After He Presents Her with MTV Video Vanguard Award
The pair shared the stage at the UBS Arena for a heartfelt moment at the 2024 VMAs following Perry's performance
Orlando Bloom is supporting Katy Perry with a kiss — and high praise — during one of the biggest nights of her career.
During the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday, Sept. 11, the 47-year-old actor paid tribute to his fiancée in a heartfelt introduction, right before her video vanguard award acceptance speech and performance — and before the duo shared a passionate kiss afterward.
"You fell in love with her as Katy Perry. I feel in love with her as Katheryn Hudson," Bloom began his speech at the UBS Arena on Long Island. "You know her as a global superstar who brings love, light and her unique sense of humor to every song she writes and music video she creates. I know her as a mother, as a partner, who brings that same love and joy to our family."
"In moments when we’ve most needed it, her music and the remarkable world she creates has brought a sense of joy and laughter, inspiring generations of people from all over the world," Bloom added. "She loves with her whole heart, and it’s kind of irresistible. I see it reflected everywhere; in our home, in her love for her work, but especially in her love for her fans. Congratulations on this honor, baby, I’m so proud of you. 1-4-3. Ladies and gentleman, your 2024 MTV video vanguard: Katheryn Hudson, Katy Perry."
After Perry's stacked performance — in which she shared highlights from her catalog and brought out her latest collaborator Doechii — the 39-year-old pop star slid down the stage to meet up with Bloom. The parents, who are mom and dad to 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, then shared a passionate kiss on stage as Bloom handed her the trophy.
During her speech, Perry also made a cheeky nod to her partner, who popped the question in 2019. "Thank you to Orlando for keeping me grounded, celebrated and doing the dishes," she said, calling back to her NSFW comments about how she thanks Bloom for doing chores during her Call Her Daddy podcast appearance this month.
During the VMAs pre-show on Wednesday, Perry revealed that the pair's daughter Daisy was watching MTV "for the very first time" to support her during her big night.
"Don't stay up too late, Sweetheart. Eat your broccoli," she said.
"I feel good. I've had my daughter, and it's changed my whole life," Perry added. "I feel a sense of wholeness and more grounded. I'm writing songs from a place of feeling truly empowered. Feeling truly connected to my feminine divine. It's changed my life for the better."
