Kate Ritchie rumoured to be making her return to Home and Away

It’s been rumoured for years that Kate Ritchie will be returning to Home and Away, but a new report has suggested that her long-awaited comeback will finally be happening in 2022.

According to New Idea, the actress has been asked to make a cameo appearance as her character Sally Fletcher on the popular soap opera “sometime next year”.

Kate also recently reignited speculation about her reprisal after she had lunch with her former co-star, Ray Meagher, earlier this month.

“Always fills my cup,” she captioned a photo of herself and Ray hugging.

The Nova radio host starred on Home and Away from the show’s premiere in 1988 when she was eight years old up until 2008.

She won two Gold Logie awards over her 20-year run, making her one of the most awarded female stars in the country, and made a brief return to Summer Bay for the show’s 26th season in 2013.

The recent rumours come shortly after Kate told TV Week that she will “always feel attached to Home and Away”.

“Even now, with some distance from those days and having had the chance to develop into my own person without the security blanket of Sally Fletcher, I still miss it desperately but I also realise I will never be able to recreate that time. Nor do I need to,” she said.

In April, Kate opened up about the emotional impact of leaving the Channel Seven series after two decades, admitting that she went through “loads of therapy”.

“I didn't know where [Sally] ended and I began or vice versa, and I had to work out whether I was more than that,” she admitted on Anh's Brush with Fame.

“She gave me purpose and a sense of achievement. I thought the only thing I'd ever done of value in my life was when I was her. I was lost, and I wondered how I was going to survive without her.”

It was announced earlier this year that Kate would be appearing on the upcoming season of Australia’s Got Talent as a judge, marking her first return to series television since 2013.

“I am not only flattered to be sharing the AGT panel with Neil Patrick Harris, Alesha Dixon and Shane Jacobson but also super excited to see the incredible talent Australia has to offer... from what I believe to be the best seat in the house!” she wrote on Instagram alongside the announcement.

While the show was set to premiere sometime this year, Channel Seven confirmed in June that production was postponed “to a date to be determined”.
