Kate and Wills' awkward BAFTAs entrance caught on camera

Kate Middleton and Prince William may be used to adoring crowds cheering for them when they step out at events but the royal couple looked seriously uncomfortable during an awkward awards show entrance on Sunday night.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended the 2020 BAFTA Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in London, which was also attended by Hollywood’s acting elite, including Margot Robbie and Scarlett Johansson.

Kate looked stunning on the ceremony’s first sustainably-focused red carpet, wearing an Alexander McQueen gown which she first wore in 2012.

Outside, crowds screamed with delight when the parents-of-three stepped out of their car, however it was a different story inside.

In a clip posted to Instagram, an announcer can be heard introducing the Duke and Duchess to the room.

Then, awkwardly, members of the audience start to clap and shout in glee, while others simply stand up and cross their hands.

But the time Kate and Wills entered the room, nobody was cheering for them, with Hollywood actors including Renée Zellweger and Joaquin Phoenix simply standing awkwardly staring in the royal couple’s direction.

Music played in the background as they made their way to their seats, both of them looking delighted to be there.

While it was pretty cringeworthy, the entrance had nothing on last year’s awards show, which saw Kate and Wills walk in to a completely silent room.

“It’s so quiet,” Kate was heard saying to a woman sitting behind her, while William said: “Let’s sit quickly. It’s a quiet room.”
