Karl Stefanovic and Cassandra Thornburn may finally be free of the $8 million ‘dream home’ keeping them connected years after their official separation.

The opulent mansion may look like everyone’s idea of heaven, but for the couple it was a giant reminder of their messy divorce after over two decades of marriage.

The waterfront plot of land was originally picked up by the couple as a blank canvas they intended to build their ‘dream home’ on, but turned into something of a nightmare, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Unfortunately the pair purchased the property, putting down a cool $800,000 deposit, just months before they announced their official separation.

The horrific timing meant the couple had to lock into buying the property, or lose their eye-watering deposit – not a fun decision when your divorce is playing out in headlines across the country.

Cutting the cord

The Daily Telegraph reports that now real estate agents have been seen appraising the property which sits on the waterfront of Cremorne in Sydney’s north.

The paper reports the couple will split the profits as part of the divorce settlement.

The property was a labour of lost love, with the original home transformed into a luxury five-bedroom extravaganza by developer Tony Blanche, after the couple went their seperate ways.

The original images of the property however show that they had a solid base to work off, with the original home boasting an indoor pool and sweeping open plan living.

The redo was carried out over a whopping 18 months, and Cassandra didn’t move in with the couple’s three children until 2017.

By this stage Karl was already established in his own home with now-wife Jasmine Yarbrough.

A look inside the sprawling home are sure to be just around the corner, with the only images currently available of the original home when it was first listed, or external snaps.
