She thanked fans for the recognition while performing in Cincinnati after noms came out, saying, “I just remembered that I got nominated for seven Grammys today. You’re such a big part of that and I just—I thank you.”

Billie spoke to the New York Times ahead of the Grammys about the inspiration for Hit Me Hard and Soft, saying, “I really, really have always had a deep love for albums that feel like albums—that move together and each song goes into each song and there’s the same motifs.”

She went on to describe “Birds of a Feather” as “a love-bomb, please-don’t-leave-me song,” adding that “it’s kind of a cry for help.” She also said she was inspired by “photos that I would find that look very peaceful but with something very scary or intense going on. I feel like that’s kind of a good representation of how love can feel.”
