Judge slams Cassandra Thorburn's first DWTS performance as a 'failure'

Cassandra Thorburn made her debut on last night’s episode of Dancing with the Stars. But while fans have applauded her performance, one judge slammed it as a ‘failure’.

Cass – who was married to Karl Stefanovic for 21 years before their very public split – took to the dance floor with partner Marco De Angelis to perform the Viennese waltz.

She swung around in a fiery red dress to Nina Simone’s hit Feeling Good, but despite feeling great about the hard work she put into the dance, judge Craig Revel Horwood didn’t mince his words.

Craig gave the 47-year-old mum and journalist some pretty harsh criticism, and a score of only one out of 10.

“It was all going well until the skirt was ripped off and you started to dance,” he said.

“And there, quite frankly was the failure!”

Cass, Marco, and host Amanda Keller all looked a little stunned, but Cass didn’t take it to heart, even saying “thank you for being so kind, stopping there”.

The other judges Sharna Burgess and Tristan MacManus however praised Cass for her dance, commenting on how beautiful and elegant she looked.

But the dismal critique from Craig earned Cass and Marco a score of just 10, the lowest of the night, alongside Curtly Ambrose.

Fans however rallied behind Cass, even getting up onto their feet in the studio and giving her a standing ovation just 30 seconds into her performance.

They also took to Twitter afterwards to say how “proud” she should be, and that she looked “smoking”.

Cass seems to have shrugged off events from earlier in the week.

Just before her dancing debut, radio host and comedian Lawrence Mooney unleashed on Cass after an extremely awkward interview for his Triple M breakfast show Moonman in the Morning.

Mooney, being the comedian he is, introduced the interview with some honest words about how he really “wanted her to unload on Karl”.

“I was expecting after a summer of her unloading on Karl Stefanovic and his now-wife Jasmine Yarbrough, that she might be wanting to get stuck into Karl, but she wanted to play it safe,” Mooney said after the interview.

He went on to say that people would watch her on the show because she was Mrs Stefanovic, and no one “gives two hoots” about her being a journalist.

And in a later segment, he slammed her for being “a nightmare”.

“I am back into Karl Stefanovic, I’ve swung right back. You know what, Cass? I can see why he walked. You are a nightmare,” the host said.
