Joshua Jackson Reacts to Wild (But...Compelling) Fan Theory That 'Doctor Odyssey' Is a Literal Fever Dream
Anyone else obsessed with Joshua Jackson's new show Doctor Odyssey? On the off-chance you have no idea what we're talking about due to your television interests being a delicious cocktail of RHONY and Secret Lives of Mormon Wives on repeat, the show (which comes from the mind of Ryan Murphy) is essentially a medical drama about a doctor named Max who's recently recovered from Covid on board a cruise ship called The Odyssey.
But TV Line dropped a compelling theory that's making the rounds: Max never actually recovered from Covid, and is stuck in limbo on his way into heaven. As they put it: "The Odyssey is heaven, beckoning him to cross over to the other side. The ship does not exist!" The outlet goes on to point out several clues—most recentlym a trailer set to the tune of "Wouldn't It Be Nice" by the Beach Boys, with the lyrics “Wouldn’t it be nice if we could wake up in the morning when the day is new?” playing as a hospital monitor beeps.
TV Line went ahead and asked Joshua whether there's any merit to this theory, and he honestly seemed fully on board—if slightly unwilling to confirm anything. “I love this theory,” he said. “I cannot tell you what goes on inside the mind of Ryan Murphy, but we also had a similar theory operating on set. Only Ryan Murphy knows. I have appreciated the internet sleuths’ work on it and I think it’s great."
