Johnny Depp Reprises 'Pirates' Character for Rare, Surprise Appearance for a Good Cause

Johnny Depp took some time out from promoting his new movie to bring back a fan-favorite character—and brighten the day of some very deserving kids.

While in Spain for the 72nd San Sebastián International Film Festival, the 61-year-old actor dressed up as his Pirates of the Caribbean character Captain Jack Sparrow to visit the children at Donostia University Hospital this week, according to People.

The hospital posted a series of pics of Depp playing and laughing with the young patients in the Pediatrics and Oncology ward to X on Thursday, Sept. 26.

“From all the staff of the Donostia University Hospital, we would like to express our infinite gratitude to Johnny Depp for his time, his support and his energy, as well as to @sansebastianfes for having facilitated this visit," the post's caption read.

"That so sweet and honorable of Johnny Depp to visit the children in the hospital. He is a very caring man. I'm sure the children were so excited to meet him," wrote one fan in the comments.

"Johnny Depp is a true treasure to this world," agreed another X user.

Depp's new film, Modi, Three Days on the Wing of Madness, is his first directorial effort in almost three decades (the last movie he directed was The Brave in 1997).

During a recent press conference, the Edward Scissorhands star opened up about the similarities between himself and Modi's main character, artist Amedeo Modigliani, referencing his highly publicized 2022 court battle with ex-wife, Amber Heard.

“Sure, we can say that I’ve been through a number of things here and there, but I’m alright,” he said. “I think we’ve all been through a number of things, ultimately…Maybe yours didn’t turn into a soap opera, televised in fact, but we all experience and go through what we go through.”
