Joaquin Phoenix had a special guest at the premiere of Joker: Folie à Deux: his sister Rain Phoenix.

The siblings stepped out to walk the red carpet together during the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, Sept. 4, marking a rare joint appearance.

While Joaquin, 49, wore a classic black tuxedo and tinted black-rimmed sunglasses, Rain rocked a long-sleeved dark-brown column gown with a crisscross pattern and black shades.

The last time Joaquin and Rain, 51, publicly appeared together at an event was at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party in Beverly Hills, California, on Feb. 9, 2020.

Rain and Joaquin are the younger siblings of the late actor River Phoenix, and they also have two younger sisters: Liberty Phoenix and Summer Phoenix.

Many of the siblings have gone the show-business route, with Joaquin as an Oscar-winning actor and Rain as an actress and singer.

Twenty-six years after River died in 1993 at the age of 23, Rain, who previously performed with River in their alternative rock band Aleka’s Attic, released her first solo album, River, on the anniversary of his death.

Asked by PEOPLE what River was like as a sibling, Rain said in 2019, "Very protective. And creative. I think he probably taught all of us a few chords on guitar and hoped that we would follow his lead and maybe be able to play lead, so he didn’t have to. He was such a great older brother."

"When I think about it, River introduced me to every experience that helped to form the direction I took in my life," added Joaquin. "He was always encouraging me and sharing everything he had."
