Jimmy Fallon Fans Say He ‘Doesn’t Get Enough Credit’ After ‘Sad’ Recap of This Week in Politics
Jimmy Fallon fans say he hit the nail on the head with his latest monologue recapping what Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency got done over the last week—but even the humorous take couldn't assuage their disappointment.
During the Monday, Feb. 24 episode of The Tonight Show, the late-night host broke down the Tesla CEO's weekly schedule with DOGE, rhythmically listing out his recent accomplishments over a beat from the Roots.
He impressed fans as he interjected a believable Donald Trump impersonation throughout his monologue, smoothly spitting out: "Sunday, layoffs. Monday, speech. Tuesday, layoffs. Wednesday, post some memes. Thursday, fire FDA, get bird flu from RFK. Friday, get some brunch with Ye, he’s now in charge of the CIA. Run the country just like Twitter, make Trump my son’s babysitter. Hang with Miller, brawl with [Steve] Bannon, have more children than Nick Cannon. Bring a chainsaw to CPAC, give Trump haircut, ‘Get the back.’ Launch a rocket, build a car; both exploded, don’t go far. Firing, firing, feeling glee, Trump just said, ‘You complete me.’ Firing, healing, feeling glad, ‘Like the son I’ve never had.’ Cut, meme, layoff, money spent, DOGE, cut, layoff, weird accent. Cut, meme, fake news, time to sleep, here’s hoping I don’t fire me."
Fans were distraught over the "way this is reality," admitting that while the "brilliant" bars "actually slap," it's "sad" to hear.
"Hilarious yet sad at the same time!!" one wrote, while another said it was "sad because it’s true😂😂😂😂."
"America is a joke now," someone else mourned.
Many others applauded Fallon and his writers for their speed and wit, with one suggesting that "Jimmy doesn’t get enough credit."
"These writers are quick 😂😂," another appreciated, while someone else suggested the whole "team needs a big raise."
Unfortunately, while Jon Stewart also nailed his take on DOGE's efforts during Monday's episode of The Daily Show, he was so emphatic in his commentary that he managed to injure himself on-air.
