Jimmy Fallon wasn’t impressed with President Donald Trump’s self-proclaimed “Liberation Day” of global tariffs. (Watch the video below.)
Trump on Wednesday announced a minimum 10% tax on all foreign imports, with places like China and the European Union getting dinged far more.
So “The Tonight Show” host did an impression of Trump trying to reassure everyone as global markets tumbled and Americans faced probable hikes in consumer prices:
“We’ll make America wealthy again like it was at the start of my presidency.”
The one-liner got longer-than-usual laughs.
During Trump’s second term, the stock market has turned in one of its worst performances in the first 50 days of a presidency, according to a new study. Since 1950, only the first 50 days of the presidencies of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush were worse, the analysis noted.
It’s no wonder that one investment firm CEO called the president’s escalating trade war a “disaster of idiocy.”
