Jennifer Love Hewitt is officially back for “I Know What You Did Last Summer” sequel: 'It's never too late'
The new horror movie is set for a July 2025 release.
Jennifer Love Hewitt is in.
The actress confirmed in the social media post below on Friday that she is reprising her role of Julie James in the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. The movie, which will costar Freddie Prinze Jr., who originally played Julie's boyfriend, Ray Bronson, is scheduled to be released July 18.
"It's never too late to go back," Hewitt wrote of the movie, which is already filming. "Julie James is returning. I know what you will be doing next summer!"
The actress teased that a deal was in the works in an interview Variety published Monday.
"I will say it is truly such an honor, at 45, to even be invited back," Hewitt said earlier. "To be thought of in that way, to not just move on to the newer, better, younger versions, but [to be offered] to come back and play that part is really cool. We're trying really hard to make it work. We're so close, guys! I promise I'll make a fun announcement, and it'll be amazing."
Hewitt also once said she was "honestly terrified" about signing onto the film, because it's more than two decades later.
Still, she told ET in May, she was ready to bring Julie "back with 26 years of angst, knowledge, kickassery, which I'm turning into a word, and have some fun."
The original horror movie, adapted from a 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, was about a group of high school friends, including Julie and Ray, who were haunted by a brutal car accident in which they were involved before parting ways. They intended to keep it hidden, but someone, who happened to be a hook-wielding murderer, knew their secret came back to terrorize them.
The upcoming movie will mostly star a new cast: Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Madelyn Cline, Gabbriette, Jonah Haur-King, Austin Nichols, Sarah Pidgeon, Lola Tung, Tyriq Withers, and Chase Sui Wonders.

Amazon also made the story into a TV series for its Prime Video in 2021, but it was canceled after one season.
