"It's a story inspired by nature, and it kind of reminds me of a Mary Oliver poem," Bush Hager said. "It's all about what it feels like to know our child from the very first moment."
She continued, "I wrote it with my sister after she had just had her little babe, Edward Finn. So it kind of is an ode to what it feels like to be a mom."
I Loved You First is illustrated by Ramona Kaulitzski, Bush Hager shared, who also brought two of the twins' earlier picture books to life through images.
Bush Hager and Pierce Bush have written four picture books together in total. Their first book, Sisters First, was published in 2019 and its sequel Love Comes First followed in 2023. The Superpower Sisterhood was released in 2022. All three of their books for children embrace the idea of sisterhood and family.
Their newest publication, which marks a thematic shift from sisterhood to motherhood, is set to be released in March 2025, Bush Hager said.
The twins also co-authored Sisters First: Stories from Our Wild and Wonderful Life, their 2018 memoir of their experiences growing up in the public eye.

The sisters, who both live in New York City, lead busy lives but they always find room for a sisters' trip — their book tour — every few years, they told The New York Times in November 2023.
On TODAY, Bush Hager confirmed she and her sister wouldn't be disrupting the tradition.
"We’re going to go on book tour and I hope you guys will get this for any mommies-to-be," she said.
