The honor is presented to those whose body of work in the film and television industry has richly enhanced the visual aspects of the viewer’s experience.
“Between script and screen, a director must navigate 20 crafts and art forms,” Reitman said in a statement. “My movies stand on the shoulders of brilliant artists including the production designers Jess Gonchor, Francois Audouy, Kevin Thompson, and Steve Saklad,” says Reitman. “Without these designers, art directors, set decorators and teams of craftspeople who work endless hours, my dreams would never be realized.”
Reitman wrote, produced and directed this year’s Saturday Night, which chronicles the frantic 90 minutes leading up to Saturday Night Live’s first broadcast in 1975. The film features a unique two-story, 360-degree immersive set designed by Jess Gonchor, which allowed for the continuous choreography.
Reitman is a four-time Oscar nominee — Best Picture, Director and Adapted Screen for 2009’s Up in the Air and Best Director for 2007’s June. His directing credits also include Young Adult, Thank You for Smoking, Tully and Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
He also serves as a governor in the Director’s Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is leading a coalition of about three dozen filmmakers working to acquire and preserve the historic Village Theater in L.A.’s Westwood community.
“I’m beyond honored to receive this award from the ADG, and I am eternally grateful to its members,” reitman added.”
