Jason Momoa pounced like a wolf on his new DC Extended Universe role.

The Aquaman star, 45, reached out with characteristic enthusiasm to director James Gunn upon hearing the news that Gunn and Peter Safran had become co-chairmen and co-CEOs of DC Studios. According to Gunn, 58, Momoa’s text was as simple and to-the-point as it could be: “F---ing LOBO.”

Celebrating the anniversary of the first time antihero Lobo appeared in DC Comics, Gunn posted a screenshot of the text in question on his X account on Monday, March 10.

“On the anniversary of Lobo, I can't help but think of a text I received from Jason Momoa on the morning it was announced Peter & I were the heads of DC Studios -- the day Jason & I first discussed him joining the DCU as Lobo,” wrote the filmmaker.

Of the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, in which Momoa will return to the world of DC as Lobo, Gunn added, “I’ve loved watching Jason bring him to life & can’t wait to share that with all of you.”

Intergalactic bounty hunter Lobo, created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in the 1980s, is a violent and irreverent being from the planet Czarnia, known for his superhuman strength and invulnerability. Momoa will introduce the character onscreen in the Craig Gillespie-directed Woman of Tomorrow alongside Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, the titular Supergirl, plus Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham. The film is based on the story by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely.

The movie follows Gunn and Safran’s reboot of the DC Universe, Superman (in theaters July 11, 2025), starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Momoa previously called Lobo "the perfect role," as he shared in December, posting a screenshot to his Instagram of a 2023 Fandango interview about playing the antihero. “If they call and ask me to play him, it's a [f---] yeah,” continued that screenshotted quote. Announcing his casting, the actor captioned the post, "They called."
