Major change in Prince William and Kate Middleton's relationship after cancer diagnosis
After being diagnosed with cancer last year, Kate Middleton has slowly returned to work in recent months.
Prince William and Kate Middleton were hit with a very tough time in 2024. The Princess of Wales and her father-in-law King Charles were both diagnosed with unspecified types of cancer, leaving the pair unable to work for some time.
While the King is still receiving treatment, Kate confirmed in September last year that she is now "cancer-free" and she has been slowly returning to work, following Charles who began working again only a few weeks after sharing the diagnosis. Now, it's clear to see some of the changes William and Kate have made following the diagnosis and in her return to work.
Prince and Princess of Wales' major change following Kate's return to work
Kate has made a very slow return to work in the last few months, with a body language expert telling The Mirror, that she and her husband have become a lot more comfortable with public displays of affection.
The royal pair were seen giggling together at the annual Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey, with Judi James telling the publication, "William and Kate made the body language transition from 'unison' behaviours to mirrored, 'free movement' behaviours at this formal royal event.
"Since Kate's illness, they have been extra tactile and totally connected during their public appearances, using every opportunity to use touches, glances or mimed hugs to move together, coupled up like ice skaters or ballroom dancers."
She added, "It appeared to signal they were both on strong, repaired form for this event, keeping their signals of utter fondness to a minimum while still keeping totally in sync.
"They walked in together but slightly apart with signs of renewed energy and positivity. William's beaming smile projected ongoing pride in his wife but he avoided all the steering pats and touches that can imply she has some need of support and encouragement."
She added that William's body language when they were sitting "suggests a bit of a bashful crush is still going on in their relationship".
Kate's slow return to work
It comes after a royal insider told the Daily Mail earlier this year, "What we will actually see is a slow continuation of the Princess balancing her recovery and her public-facing duties, as she outlined back in September [when she warned her recovery was still ongoing despite having completed her chemotherapy].

"Cancer impacts on your perspective, and what you have seen in the decisions they have made over the last year is that family and their children continue to be at the centre of their universe. Both Their Royal Highnesses have a strong commitment to duty, service and using their platform for good. But what they are working on is ways they can balance themselves as parents with being the Prince and Princess of Wales."
They add that there are no plans for Kate to take part in any full-scale foreign tours, despite William previously saying he has several trips lined up in the coming months. Perhaps if she's feeling up to it, Kate would be willing to join William on shorter trips.
