Jamie Lee Curtis Celebrates Milestone Achievement With 'Gentle' Reminder

Jamie Lee Curtis issued a heartfelt reminder while celebrating an incredible and, for some, extremely relatable feat.

On Monday, the 66-year-old Academy Award winner commemorated 26 years sober with an emotional Instagram post that began with the actress recalling how much has changed since she attended her first recovery meeting.

Alongside her lengthy message, the True Lies alum included two screenshots, one of an app she uses to track her sobriety—which showed that she had been sober for 26 years or 312 months, the equivalent of 9,498 days and a total of 227,911 hours—and another of an overhead view of the destruction that totaled the Palisades-area church that held recovery meetings she once attended.

"I have made beautiful, beautiful, friendships and it has expanded my life beyond recovery and it has given me the family life and creative life," Curtis wrote in the caption of her Feb. 3 upload, emphasizing the life she has now is one she "never thought possible."

"To every person I have come in contact with who have shared their experience, strength and hope as it relates to alcoholism and drug addiction, I thank you for your courage and welcome and for all those who came before us, and for those who have followed, thank you," Curtis praised.

The actress explained that this year's anniversary was even more meaningful, noting the sight of the building that hosted the recovery meetings "no longer exists" following the deadly wildfires that devastated parts of Los Angeles County last month.

"The little avatar in the picture of the street is in the exact spot/seat I sat in at my weekly meeting in the Palisades in a church that no longer exists, in a neighborhood that no longer exists, but we don't drink or use no matter what and this is a big f--king no matter what," she pleaded.

"Be gentle with yourselves," the Freaky Friday star continued, "ONE DAY AT A TIME!"

"My hand in yours," she concluded, signing off, "JLC."

Shortly after the Palisades Fire tore through Southern California in early January, Curtis honored the church, mourning its loss while reminding community members that they "will persevere."

"This is the church in the Palisades that had a beautiful Sunday school and school and was a gorgeous house of worship and is the building that I got sober in 25 years ago," she wrote in her tear-filled Jan. 8 Instagram tribute.

"I think of all of the souls who came there for comfort and solace and all the baptisms and funerals and weddings and the thousands of people who reclaimed their lives through Sobriety," she added. "Also, the women's club in the Palisades where I met many sober people. Both are gone. Tough times. We will persevere. God bless you all."
