James Middleton is looking back on three years of marriage with Alizee Thevenet — and sending a romantic message in French!

On Sept. 11, Kate Middleton's younger brother penned a sweet tribute to his wife to celebrate their third wedding anniversary and shared a previously unseen image from their September 2021 wedding day. James, 37, and Alizee married in France, where she is from, and the new photo showed them kissing in a field with two of their beloved dogs at their feet.

"Je t’aime, mon cœur," he wrote on Instagram with white heart emojis. "Happy anniversary Alizee. Our third as husband & wife, our second without Ella but our first as parents."

"Je t’aime, mon cœur" is French for "I love you, my heart," and the couple had something extra special to celebrate last year. James and Alizee's family expanded when they welcomed their first child, son Inigo, whose birth James announced in October 2023.

James' anniversary also post referenced to the death of his dog Ella, who died in January 2023. The black cocker spaniel was the first dog he owned in adulthood, and Princess Kate's brother previously credited the pup as his strength while struggling with depression.

When the entrepreneur launched his all-natural pet food company in 2020, he named it Ella & Co. in her honor. (He later pivoted to rebrand it as James & Ella in August 2023.)

James and Alizee, a financial analyst, met in 2018, got engaged the following year, bumped back their May 2020 wedding plans amid the pandemic and ultimately married in southeastern France in September 2021. In an essay for The Telegraph, James said that Ella brought him and Alizee together when she "made a beeline" for his future wife at the South Kensington Club in Chelsea.

According to the story, Alizee thought James was a server and ordered a drink after Ella ran up to her.

"Little did I know, I had just met my future wife, all thanks to Ella," he wrote for The Telegraph. "If I hadn't trusted Ella, I wouldn't have brought her to the South Kensington Club and she wouldn't have been able to say hi to the woman who became my fiancée."

In March, James announced that he was at work on a memoir Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life. It will be published in the U.S. on Sept. 24 and in the U.K. on Sept. 26.

He further mused on how Ella led him to where he is today in a reflective message in May, below a photo of Inigo with one of the family's six other dogs.

"I wish moments like this could last forever," James wrote on Instagram in the spring. "This special moment is all thanks to Ella. Let me explain; Alizée, Inigo and all the dogs came to hear me speak for the first time about my book Meet Ella. Ella introduced me to Alizée, a few years later we got married, another year or so later Inigo arrived. Ella and Inigo never met but every moment Ella is with us."

"So if it wasn’t for that moment…I would not have been able to capture this moment," he said.

Following his eldest sister Kate's Sept. 9 announcement that she had completed chemotherapy, James took to social media to congratulate her on the accomplishment. Commenting on the Prince and Princess of Wales' official account sharing the three-minute video, James wrote "I couldn't be more proud," alongside a heart emoji.
