I've finally found a mascara that meets my snobbish standards, and it's £13
I am a mascara girlie through and through. Tbh, my makeup just looks weird without a slick of mascara and, as someone who is naturally blessed in the lash department (soz), it's crucial for me to find the right formula that'll lift them to their full potential. I'm here to show those babies off.
Long, bold and volumised lashes are my thang and there are only a few formulas that do the job. Truthfully, Benefit's Badgal Bang Volumising Mascara is a long-time fave but it also comes with a £27 price tag. So when the bank balance is looking dry and I need a budget replacement, Rimmel London's Thrill Seeker Extreme Mascara is my next of kin (btw, it's £12.99).
Thrill Seeker Extreme Mascara
As the typical Gen Z that I am, I saw the mascara popping off on TikTok and needed to try it pronto. Just for context, the below video was what caught my attention as that thick, bold and eye-catching lash look is right up my street.
After trying it for myself, I can attest that everything she demonstrated is true. And not only that, but the brand's trial results live up to expectations, with 87% of testers saying it delivers 'ultra volume'. Here are my thoughts...
Rimmel London Thrill Seeker Mascara, reviewed
First impressions always start with the wand, and tbh, the soft-bristle wand isn't what I'd typically go for. I usually opt for a mascara with plastic bristles but this shocked me. It did a stellar job at grabbing onto each eyelash, coating it in a thick, black pigment and lifting them up to brow-skimming lengths. And, as many fibre bristles fall guilty of, it didn't flick black flecks of mascara onto my eyelids.
The formula is quite thin, so you can create a natural look with one layer if you fancy. But it also layers well without clumping or packing on too much product, so you can keep on applying for an intense look. To get the most out of it, I'd suggest dipping the wand into the tube a few times to coat the bristles and then wiggle the wand from the root of your lashes to the tip to add length and volume. As the bristles are so soft, they create a fanned-out flutter that results in a pretty, doe-eyed effect.
And because it's always an important consideration when buying a mascara, it passed my tube/sweat/cry test with flying colours (not even the tears I shed from watching the new Bridget Jones could crack this formula). I was impressed by how well it stayed in place without smudging onto my under eye or flaking off.
My final thoughts? I may be a mascara snob, but you simply can't say no to a high-street find when it gives me lashes *this* long and volumised for £13. I hate to say, but my beloved Benefit has some competition in my makeup routine.
