Yahoo Lifestyle Isabella Rossellini Breaks Silence on David Lynch's Death: 'I Loved Him So Much'
Isabella Rossellini has broken her silence on the death of her frequent collaborator and ex-boyfriend David Lynch.
The actress's role in Lynch's 1986 film Blue Velvet helped her career skyrocket, and the two dated for approximately five years after the fact, breaking up not long after she was featured in his 1990 film Wild at Heart.
Despite ending their romantic relationship, the two remained close friends, with Rossellini posting a recent photo of the two sitting with their heads leaned against one another and Lynch's arm wrapped around her shoulder while the two held hands as she mourned his passing.
"I loved him so much," she wrote passionately on Instagram on Jan. 17, thanking everyone who had sent her a "kind message" in the wake of his passing.
Lynch's family announced his death at 78 via his official Facebook page on Thursday, Jan. 16. Though they did not confirm exactly when or how he died, the director was left housebound after being diagnosed with emphysema in 2024, which he attributed to "smoking for so long."
“It would be very bad for me to get sick, even with a cold,” he told Sight & Sound at the time.
Actor Kyle MacLachlan also took to social media to mourn the filmmaker, crediting him for having “plucked [him] out of obscurity” in the '80s.
“He clearly saw something in me that even I didn’t recognize,” he wrote in his lengthy tribute. “I owe my entire career, and life really, to his vision.”
